Week 6: Lunges are hell (amid other musings)

But seriously, lunges can go fuck themselves. I don't know how we can knock out 2-3 different exercises focused on the lower body but it's the lunges that make me want to die by falling down the stairs in the gym. The absolute worst, I wish to speak to their manager.

Getting a clear head and feeling like the best version of yourself is really an under-celebrated feeling. Even though the stressors are still the same (and in some cases worse, thanks Army), there is a distinct lack of downward spirals. Quite the opposite in fact, I'm staring down the barrel of bad news and excited about the outcomes way one or the other. Had to laugh the other day when one of my many bosses heard some news and pulled me in to see if I was going to be ok alone for the weekend. "Ya know sir, I'm actually going to be more than fine, I expect to have a great weekend". Dude wasn't ready for that.

Speaking of not being ready for my response, one of the new counselors I saw last week was significantly taken aback by just how proactive I've been on my own in my road to right (roll credits). From name dropping psychological terms to introducing her to useful apps in goal accomplishment, it is a pretty good feeling when the end result is "well damn man...keep on keepin on and I'll see you next week!" I truly haven't been this motivated, dedicated, or medicated in a while but something somewhere is working because hot damn. Also, you wouldn't believe how tidy your house can be when you replace day drinking with chores on the weekend.

I finally got back in the kitchen last week with some meal prepped pork, pineapple, and jalapeno tacos with homemade pickled red onions and a Mexican crema. Those of you who know me very well know I used to be in love with cooking and I'm feeling that again. Yesterday was a homemade Texas red chili made from a whole chuck roast and rehydrated dried guajillo, ancho, chipotle, arbol, and pasilla chilis. This of course required me to explain to my boss why beans don't belong in chili. Meal prep happened while the WM Phoenix Open was on in the background and huge shouts to Nick Taylor for his absolutely stellar putting that led him to a playoff victory against Charlie Hoffman. Oh, and there was a football game on but the stories going in to it were lame so I opted to play Skyrim instead. Finished a perfect week of four lifts and three runs last week and I'm feeling it...in a goodish way...but definitely still feeling it. Bumping my working maxes up by 20# this week so we will see how that goes.

Last thought for the week: I used to listen to straight up depressing music around the house because that's how I felt and I wanted to just wallow and drown in the negativity. This week I split my time evenly between emo music, a playlist called "BASIC WHITE GIRL PLAYLIST 2024" and one called "Captain America's Last Dance." The last two are just for different moods but the emo songs stay because there is something oddly therapeutic about belting both parts of "If It Means A Lot To You" at the top of your lungs. Try it out sometime.
