Week 8: When I Grow Up
How come we only ask kids what they want to be when they grow up? And why do we relegate the answer to only careers? This past week’s overall theme has been me discovering new things I want to do and new versions of me I want to be. Like i want to run a half marathon this year, i want to get more into BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu), I want to learn how to play the guitar, and I want to be more bookworm-ish. With all the said, people only care about what careers little kids want to enter and I think that’s lame. Can we just ask kids what their dreams are and go from there…please? It would be hella cool. That and ask grown ass adults what their dreams are too, we’ve also got growing up to do and futures ahead of us.
Continuing the grind this past week hitting all of my lifts and my runs. Fun fact, running at altitude still fucking sucks and i don’t think it will be getting easier any time soon. No weigh-ins or body composition tests until next Monday so numbers will be rolling in then. Didn’t cook this weekend as it was the wife’s birthday and we had brunches to brunch and books to buy but I’ll likely knock it out tomorrow morning before work. Chicken Tikka Masala, toasted and ground my own curry blend this morning so real excited to see how everything turns out.
Last week was also significant because i left my comfort zone a few times to meet some new people in some new groups. I don’t do that, that’s not me, so it was super fuckin awkward at first…but when you’ve all got a thing or two in common then interpersonal communication flows pretty damn easily. Looking forward to diving into the hobbit and LOTR books mainly because Liz won’t stop asking questions during the extended cuts of the movies.
I’ll leave you all with this: whether you are trying out a new hobby or going to counseling or getting into (or back into in my case) fitness, keep coming back, it works if you work it.
