S2 E33: swim, dance, karate

 This time it’s honestly just the company that’s holding me up/held me up all week. Bonus dad is in town and between the doing nothing/binging mission impossible i kept putting it off until i went to sleep and woke up going “damnit i need to write that entry”. Every day we are getting better cumulatively. Ya know the whole “two steps forward, once step back” thing? Well at the very least, cumulatively you are moving forward. This weeks late entry was just one of the steps back, it happens. And if you approach your failures, setbacks, shortcomings, and simple bad days as the one step back it’s a nice frame to keep everything positive. Today i stepped back, but overall I’m far ahead of where I started. Boom, positive thought at the open instead of the close, switching shit up on you.

Nah last week was great. I started it with the news that I no longer needed crutches and was cleared to start walking everywhere. Huge huge huge wins, couldn’t stand the damn things and they made everyday getting around a massive pain in the ass. Also was told to start incorporating body weight/air squats into my daily PT routine, which meant it was finally safe to get back in the gym. I was nervous before, ya know how you brace yourself with your legs even while doing upper body work? Well now I’m comfortable enough to do it and i got three gym sessions under my belt last week. Fuck am I out of shape: 75 days of inactivity and I’m weeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaak. But that’s fine, it’s a starting point. 18 months ago when this whole thing started I had to use baby weight, and if I could go from their to my peak before injury I can sure as shit do it again.

Speaking of PT, I’m kinda on/off with staying on top of it. Functionally I’m getting a lot of work in but that’s mainly because I be up walking and doing shit. Ya know, cleaning and such because Glenn was coming through. Nick (PT) says that the bending of the knee will naturally come with time but the straightening won’t, that’s the real important section of rehab that i have to focus on so that’s the part i never fail to hit. Don’t want to be limping forever.

Oh man i also went back to BJJ last week and sat in for a few classes. It’s pretty damn cool returning to that world because the community is amazing. Positive, humble, caring; there are some amazing people in that tribe and it’s a community I’ll be better off for having returned to.

And then yeah, FIL came through and we went to pikes peak, sat around watching movies and game shows, really just put forth effort into doing not a damn thing. It’s the man’s vacation and that’s what he wanted to do…whomst am I to deny him the opportunity.

Rapid fire: I’m 90% sure I’m the worst magic player on the planet but i still enjoy the hell out of it. We did a fantasy football draft, scored an A+ which likely means I’ll lose the season but who’s judging. I can swim, i can dance, and I’m learning Jiu Jitsu so it’s close enough to karate. I’m gonna make it, you fucking watch me.
