S2 E49-50: the final push
thought about updating last week but honestly it was much of the same. The last month really has been relatively similar week to week: just working and training and cleaning and eating. Funny, eating never used to make it in my “to do” lists…but taking your shit seriously means rearranging priorities until you get what you want.
Nobody really talks about the endurance factor of the grind. Fitfluencers are hella quick to toss around the “do it tired, do it whether you want to or not” etc but it takes way more than a catchy slogan super imposed over a dope looking skull to keep yourself on track.
Interesting enough (and here comes a principle we all love and recognize) is that the way to keep at it is extremely similar to the way you grieve and process and heal…it takes some grace. Look diet and exercise, fitness and nutrition, these are games of consistency. At work we like to use the 80/20 rule, 80% of the time you’re locked tf in and that makes the 20% of bullshit not as detrimental on your progress. Bad lifts will happen, bad diet days will happen, but using that as an excuse to backslide will drop you off where you started.
Let’s talk support base. There’s a new dynamic that is born between two people when one of them decides to prioritize recovery/growth and it can be either positive or negative. The plus side is when the other person is supportive of the growth and change, becoming additional motivation and strengthening your resolve. The not so great version is when your growth scares them or angers them for some reason and they become a roadblock between you and your goals. What do you do?
I’m not telling you to blow past all roadblocks, each one will be a judgement call on your end. What’s more important to you, your goals or your opps?
I’d be remiss to ignore the holiday colored catastrophe coming up in a few weeks. The holiday season is hard for a lot of people who are missing friends or loved ones that aren’t with us…either physically or mortally or what have you. Check on your folks, send a “hey brother, been thinking about you. Merry Christmas” to your entire address book if you have the wherewithal to handle all of the replies.
Oh, accountability. Uh so we are in the middle of deadcember and I’m using 315 as my working max. I’m down under 20 percent body fat. Training BJJ 2-3 times a week, putting a tournament on the calendar in April to get back to competing. Shits actually not terrible…which is a huge plus (like Switzerland). Anywho, take care of yourselves and each other, i get my boo thing back soon.
